Report highlights the value of high speed rail

Wednesday 20 January 2010

A new report has once again highlighted the value of high speed rail, and clearly demonstrates that it is essential to maintain Britain’s competitiveness. It confirms the need for the benefits of high speed to be spread to all the principal cities of the UK and for it to be properly integrated with the ‘classic’ rail network.

‘The Right Track’, published by the Bow Group, is an analysis of a number of different high speed rail proposals which have emerged recently.  Chief among its recommendations is that a new line should be directly linked to Heathrow Airport through the construction of a hub interchange station, connecting high speed and ‘classic’ lines, including the Great Western, Crossrail, Chiltern and Airtrack.
